The perfect dish for garlic and meat lovers. This is how I make the perfect steak!

You'll Need...

  • 4 lbs sirloin steak (try to have it at room temperature)
  • 4 tbsp avocado oil
  • Sea salt and ground black pepper, to taste
  • For the garlic butter
  • 1 stick organic unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup dried parsley flakes
  • 2 tbsp dried basil leaves
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of pepper

Directions

  1. For the garlic butter:Combine butter, parsley, basil, garlic, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
  2. Transfer mixture to sheet of foil. Make sure all sides of butter are evenly coated in other ingredients. Then, roll into a log.
  3. For the steak:Place a medium-sized pan on medium-high heat.
  4. Wash and dry both sides of steak. Then, drizzle with avocado oil and season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  5. Place steak into the middle of the pan and let cook for 1 minute.
  6. Flip steak and cook for another minute.
  7. Tilt the pan away from you so that the oil and juices run down to one side. Use it to sear the edges of the steak until they are colored like the rest of the meat.
  8. Lower heat to medium. Continue flipping steak in 1 minute intervals until desired wellness is reached, about 4-5 times for medium rare.
  9. Add desired amount of garlic butter into the pan. Let it melt completely into the pan.
  10. Flip steak about 2-3 more times to let it soak in the butter.
  11. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes.
  12. You're done! Enjoy your perfect steak!

Additional Notes

I like to plate it with all of the oil, butter, and juices from the pan, but it's up to your personal preference.

Make Your Own Simple Syrup

Simple Syrup

In my obsession with making boba drinks, I have discovered a magical ingredient called simple syrup. Simple syrup is a liquid sweetener made of equal parts sugar dissolved in equal parts water. I use it to sweeten my teas, but you can also use it to make cocktails or even in food. It mixes in really well so you don’t have to deal with grains of sugar that refuse to dissolve.

Most boba shops use high fructose corn syrup as a liquid sweetener in their drinks, which is notorious for being all kinds of bad for you. Simple syrup is a healthy alternative, especially since you will know exactly what is going in it when you make it yourself. The best thing about it is that you can make it with any kind of sugar you want. I typically use turbinado cane sugar but go ahead ad use whatever sugar you prefer.

Everybody has their own preferences on the ingredients they use. If you want to know what I use in my kitchen, you can get the ingredients here.

How to Make Sea Salt/Sea Cream

Sea salt/sea cream drinks are super popular here in Southern California. There are so many places that sell these drinks. You can get them from 85C Bakery, 7 Leaves, and Fusion Tea Bar, just to name a few. My problem is that although it is relatively cheap to get these drinks, they don’t last me the whole day to fully satisfy my cravings and the little amounts of money add up. So here I am making my own drinks at home! I am obsessed with Fusion Tea Bar’s white rose cream tea and while I don’t know how to make that yet, I can show you how to make the simpler sea salt drinks.

Let’s get started.

Ingredients:
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 tsp sea salt

Directions:
1. Combine the ingredients into a bowl (you can also use a mixer)
2. Whip for about 5-7 minutes. The consistency should be comparable to shampoo. If it is too runny, you need to whip it more. I suggest whipping for an extra 2 minutes at a time until consistency is right.

That’s it! It’s so easy to make. You can basically add this to any drink of your choice now. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different drinks!
